Keena hopes new ACC unit will be open by HalloweenChairperson of the Board of Management at Athlone Community College Cllr Frankie Keena said it is his hope that the new special needs unit at the school will be open by late autumn. He said the school was working with the Department of Education and the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) to proceed with the project. The Athlone councillor concluded by highlighting his belief that other schools should follow suit and open a special needs unit to give students and parents a choice of schools. "There's been no real change," she said, although stating that special education staff and psychologists are getting back to her more quickly. The statement outlined that the additional needs unit "paves the way for further increased special class provision in Athlone Community College in the near future."
