Kedah entertainment laws need to be amended, says state exco

ALOR STAR: Kedah’s State Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1997 needs to be adapted to current times in order to curb illegal online gambling activities. “The enactment will be reviewed since some provisions are no longer relevant,” Badrul told a press conference after chairing a Special Task Force meeting to monitor entertainment license in the state. Also present is Kedah police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid and representatives from 22 other agencies. Badrul said proposed amendments would include payment charge for a gaming machine at an entertainment outlet, which currently fixed at RM50 per machine. Meanwhile, Mior Farid said the police have proposed to the local authorities to revoke 38 out of 73 licenses issued to entertainment premises statewide.
