The township of Tūai in northern Hawke’s Bay. A kayaker has died after an incident at the remote settlement of Tūai in northern Hawke’s Bay. Emergency services were alerted to the incident, after an emergency beacon activation around 10.40am on Sunday, on a river south of Lake Whakamarino, a police spokeswoman said. The kayaker died before their body was able to be retrieved from the water. Police would conduct inquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner.
