Kathua rape and murder case: 3 get life term, 3 five-year imprisonment


Six of the seven accused in the Kathua eight-year-old rape-and-murder case were on Monday found guilty by a special court in Pathankot. Three of them, including the mastermind, Sanji Ram, were sentenced to life imprisonment and three policemen awarded five-year jail term for “destroying the evidence”. Besides Sanjhi Ram, who is a a retired government official and local priest, the other two who got life imprisonment were special police officer Deepak Khajuria and Ram’s nephew Parvesh Kumar. “The court has underlined that the life imprisonment meant till life in this case. However, we will appeal in the higher court for an enhancement of the quantum of punishment against all the seven accused,” Special Prosecutor Santosh Singh said.
