I started working as a journalist with RTE in the mid-1990s when I got a placement as a reporter on RTE Radio 1’s breakfast news show Morning Ireland. I had done a master’s in history, yet was qualified for nothing. I couldn’t believe that I was there: I had imposter syndrome. I had ability and talent and was a hard worker, but I made all the mistakes in the world. As someone just starting out, to be encouraged was a gift.
