Social activist S Bhaskaran had submitted a petition to the governor seeking his permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah as the issue amounted to nepotism. The reason for refusing to grant permission for prosecution has not been disclosed. However, Vala, who examined the petition, refused to grant his permission on June 8. He had invoked several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 to justify his petition. But Dr. Yathindra later quit the company on the advice of Siddaramaiah.
