Kamarudin: 1,075 Malaysians still stranded in India

PETALING JAYA: About 1,075 Malaysians are still stranded in India after the Indian government imposed a travel ban on passengers, including Indian passport holders, from flying in from several countries hit by the Covid-19 virus. Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar (pic) said 450 people were stranded in Chennai, Trichy (430), New Delhi (97), Bangalore (63), Mumbai (24) and Cochin (11). Kamarudin said it had facilitated the process of bringing back both Malaysians and Indian nationals to their respective countries based on the close cooperation between the governments of Malaysia and India. “Cooperation has allowed 138 Malaysians and 405 Indian nationals to return to their home countries on Wednesday, ” he said. There were two flights from India to Malaysia, ferrying 138 Malaysians – an AirAsia flight with 111 Malaysian passengers from New Delhi and another commercial flight with 27 Malaysians.
