Kaikoura kayaking operator first back on the water, alert to further quakesJOHN KIRK-ANDERSON/STUFF.CO.NZ Kaikoura Kayaks took their first clients out after the earthquake changed the coastline. It may seem like counter-intuitive advice for a tsunami threat, but that's Matt Foy's instruction to his clients if another earthquake hits while they're out kayaking. Foy's Kaikoura Kayaks is among the first to get tourists back on the water since Monday's magnitude-7.8 earthquake. Foy said he had fielded interest from people wanting to get to Kaikoura to support the local economy. "They [Kaikoura residents] live off tourist things and we want to support them a little bit, they need us."
