KL2017: Muhamad Fuad deliver Malaysia's first Sea Games gold in boxing since 2009

IT has been a long time coming but national boxer Muhamad Fuad Mohd Redzuan finally landed his maiden Sea Games gold at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) today. Fuad, who is competing in his fifth Sea Games, defeated Thailand's highly favoured Thani Narinram in the men's 49kg class final at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) to deliver Malaysia's first Sea Games gold in the sport since 2009. "I have always been unlucky at the Sea Games in the past and had been drawn against the favourites in the early rounds on a number of occasions," said the 26-year-old. "It is an honour for me to win this as Malaysia has never won this category in the Sea Games before. Muhammad Fairus Azwan Abdullah and Mohd Farkhan Haron, who has since turned professional, delivered gold in the men's 81kg and 75kg class at the 2009 Laos games.
