GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government was today asked on whether it planned to modify the proposed “medical city” to “hotel city” if the Health Ministry did not approve the application for a hospital expansion project at Peel Avenue here. Acting state Gerakan Youth chief Jason Loo said this was because applications had been submitted to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to develop a hotel, medical suites and hospital on the 2.56ha Peel Avenue land. "Will the DAP-led Penang government proceed with the hotel project if the ministry does not approve the application for the hospital's expansion project? "Since the land has been re-zoned to commercial land, will the state government cancel the rezoning if the ministry's approval is not granted? “Island Hospital has applied to the council for approval for the hotel but the council has yet to approve the proposal,” she was quoted as saying.
