KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia edged closer to retaining the Sea Games women's basketball gold medal after posting a fourth straight win by beating the Philippines 60-56 at the Maba Stadium on Thursday. The Philippines, the only team to have beaten Malaysia at the 2015 Sea Games, dropped to 3-2 and out of gold medal contention. In a close encounter with the Philippines, Malaysia started the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead but saw that wiped out midway through the period. But Pang Hui Pin's free throw put Malaysia ahead 55-54 with 1:44 remaining before Ting Chung Hong extended the lead to three points. Chong Yin Yin led Malaysia with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Yap Fook Yee added 10 points.
