Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on Tuesday said that the government is trying to turn all state-owned jute mills into profitable institutions. “The purpose of my visit is to determine the reasons behind the losses being incurred by state-run jute mills and to find out the obstacles preventing them from making profits," he said. The minister added that the authorities were currently revisiting the decision to subsidize state-owned jute mills. “Additionally, we found that modern machineries in private jute mills allow a worker to operate four machines at a time, whereas in state-owned jute mills, each machine has to be manned by one worker,” Gazi explained.
