When a Tangail court sentenced four people to death in a case filed over the murder of Jakia Sultana Rupa on Monday, her family finally found some solace. The fifth accused were sentenced to seven years in jail. Special public prosecutor advocate Nasimul Akhter Nasim told the Dhaka Tribune: “The verdict has set a milestone for justice. Police filed a murder case at Modhupur police station accusing five people on August 26, and arrested bus driver Habibur, supervisor Safar Ali, and assistants Shamim, Akram and Jahangir two days later. All five men confessed to being involved in the rape and murder of Rupa.
