JUNIOR Minister Michael D'Arcy faces an uphill battle to be elected to the Seanad. Fine Gael junior finance minister Mr D'Arcy and his party colleague Senator Maria Byrne will be nervous. Fianna Fáil's Ms Chambers and and Mr Byrne were elected to the Seanad on the 16th count. Gabrielle McFadden of Fine Gael failed to keep her Seanad seat while Mary Julian Newman - the sister of former TD Kate O'Connell - also did not get elected. Mr Byrne added: "In these difficult times, we need to work together to build a batter country and planet."
