Journalist Ahmed Razu granted bail


Journalist Ahmed Razu, the executive editor of online newspaper “Natun Somoy,” was granted bail on Wednesday in two cases filed for charges of extortion and publishing false reports. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Ahsan Habib and Md Raihan-ul-Islam approved the bail after hearing Razu’s bail petition regarding the cases. Also Read- Journalist Razu remanded in second case in two daysPolice arrested Razu from his Segunbagicha office on Sunday night in an ICT case filed with Ramna police station by Walton Group, accusing the journalist of tarnishing the company’s image by deliberately running “fabricated” reports. Rabiul Islam, the first senior assistant-director of Creative and Publication for Walton group, filed another case with Paltan police station against journalist Razu for allegedly attempting to extort Tk5 lakh from them. Razu had approved a number of news reports on Natun Somoy that criticised the after-sale service of Walton, particularly regarding their phones and motorcycles.
