Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has dropped a clue that both Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen are set to stay at the club for the long term, claims Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth. Vertonghen and Eriksen are out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the season, with the latter linked with a transfer to both Manchester United and Inter Milan. Sheth says, at one of Mourinho’s early press conferences at Tottenham, the Portuguese stated his team selection was based on the long-term future of a player at the club. Sheth noted how Vertonghen has started Spurs’ last eight league games and Eriksen has also come into the side of late after initially struggling to earn a place in the starting XI. So he reckons that is a clue “something is going on behind the scenes” with regards to the duo signing a new contract soon.
