Bruce took over from Rafa Benitez after the popular gaffer couldn’t agree with club owner Mike Ashley on a new contract and left for Chinese club Dalian Yifang. The Toon fans, though, didn’t take well to that decision as the Manchester United legend hasn’t managed in the Premier League since 2015 and his two-year stint on rivals Sunderland’s dugout isn’t doing him any favours either. Shelvey, though, has urged supporters to get behind the new manager because that will help them perform their best, which in turn won’t give the crowd any reason to complain. The ex-Liverpool ace described Bruce as “a breath of fresh air” who will give everyone their just rewards as long as they work hard.
