Jokatte Rly. Station to help ease congestion around Mangaluru Jn.

Line doublingWhile line doubling has been planned between Mangaluru Junction and Panambur (about 13 km), Southern Railway has been able to complete and commission a 5.9-km double line between Jokatte and Panambur. Track doubling between Jokatte and Panambur involved the laying of a 3.4-km new track to facilitate independent movement of goods trains to and from the port. Reduced congestionWith the new station, trains need not wait at Thokur or Mangaluru Junction to cross the borders of the Konkan Railway or the Southern Railway as the case may be thereby reducing congestion. Southern Railway need not wait for mandatory permission from Konkan Railway to dispatch goods trains from Padil (from Mysuru/Bengaluru side) or from Mangaluru Junction (from Kerala side). This will help in effective goods handling at Panambur, said Southern Railway.
