JOHOR BARU: Johor police have detained 48 men and a woman aged between 18 and 67 for illegal gambling activities here. State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the suspects were detained Saturday in ongoing operations against unlicenced gambling outlets. He said police also seized 49 mobile phones, 49 printers, 161 pieces of betting papers and RM3,224 cash. Comm Mohd Khalil said the case in being investigated under Section 4 (A) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953. Some 1,163 people were charged in court and a total of RM247,326 cash was seized.
