OTTAWA—Toronto Mayor John Tory made a personal appeal to federal cabinet ministers Wednesday to make good on pledges to fund community programs needed to help reduce gun violence in Canada’s biggest city. I said, ‘Look, we need more,’” Tory told the Star during a break between meetings with federal politicians. On Monday, Tory promised the city would spend $6 million this year on youth violence prevention and intervention programs. “I want to make sure we’ve done everything possible to keep this summer safe,” said Blair, who had his own meeting with Tory on Wednesday afternoon. The frustration over funding for the community safety programs is the one discordant note in what Tory says is otherwise an “excellent relationship” with Ottawa.
