Former prime minister John Key says outgoing Air New Zealand CEO Christopher Luxon will be a "world class candidate" for the National Party nomination in Botany. Luxon announced on Tuesday night that he was seeking the National nomination in the Auckland seat of Botany, currently held by former National MP Jami-Lee Ross. Ross resigned from the National Party in a firestorm of controversy after alleging leader Simon Bridges had illegally obscured campaign donations, an allegation Bridges strongly denied. "It's arrogant for National to believe they can fix their leadership problems by parachuting someone in who will automatically win an electorate seat."
