To the editor:In 1752, Jacob Schoff, along with his son’s and daughter’s families, settled in Morristown, N.H. It was not long after Jacob and his family came to New Hampshire that others decided to visit and the hotel industry began. Now many, many years later, there are a lot fewer working farms, which is a shame, and a lot more tourist-related businesses in the valley. Well, Jacob and his family thought it reminded them of where they had left in Germany, so they renamed it “Franconia” which, according to the Franconia Historical Society, translates to “Beautiful Forest”! Sorry for my rant, but I am just so tired of hearing this stuff for the last 49 years!
