They were held during night-long raids that started late on Saturday in six Upazilas. "Twenty people were held from Jhenaidah sadar, four at Kaliganj, seven at Shailkupa, six at Harinakundu, nine at Maheshpur and six at Kotchandpur," said Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Azbahar Ali Sheikh. Bozlur Rahman, president of Jamaat's Maheshpur municipality ward 7 unit, and Kotchandpur-based Jamaat activist Idris Ali are among those arrested. The raids are aimed at improving law and order and preventing possible trouble in the district, said the ASP. He added that police were questioning those detained, all of whom are accused in different cases.
