Her relatives rescued her in a critical condition and brought her to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Md Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost confirmed the matter. She added that Sharmin lived with her parents, and her husband lived in Kutubkhali. She thinks Sharmin became mentally unstable due to her husband’s mental torture and tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire.
