The special envoy to the prime minister urged Hasina to reinstate Abul Hossain as a Cabinet minister since the bribery allegations could not sustain in a Canadian court. Abul Hossain was forced to resign as communications minister after the World Bank set conditions to finance the multi-billion-dollar bridge projects. Former Bridges Division Secretary Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was sent to jail over the case. Bangladesh, later, withdrew the funding request and decided to go ahead with the project with its own resources straining the relations with the global lender. He asked the media which reported stories based on fabricated information to apologise.
