With 37 golds, 27 silvers and 37 bronzes, Team Japan ended the Taipei Universiade at the top of the medal table, marking the first time it's been No. Chinese Taipei made history too with 26 golds, 34 silvers and 30 bronzes, placing third after South Korea. Japan, due partly to geographic proximity, sent a delegation of 336 athletes to the Taipei Universiade. In baseball, Team Japan overpowered the U.S. to defend its championship title. Chinese Taipei also placed in the Top 10 of the Universiade medal count for the sixth time in a row.
