TOKYO: Japan has detected a second case of a new virus in the country that has infected hundreds of people in China, the government said on Friday (Jan 24). A visitor from the central Chinese city of Wuhan has been hospitalis ed in Tokyo after the second pneumonia case caused by the potentially deadly virus was confirmed. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases confirmed that the man had tested positive for the virus. Last week, Japan confirmed the first case of the new virus when a Chinese national who lives in Kangawa prefecture near Tokyo tested positive after visiting Wuhan in early January. The virus killed at least 18 people in China and 644 have been identified as carrying the virus, according to official figures cited by China's Global Times newspaper.
