To be fair, Trump’s supporters are not calling for the extermination of whole peoples or cultures. If he does share a trait with Hitler, it’s this: being a mirror reflecting his supporters’ fears and frustrations. Hitler traded in crazy ideas (“the Jews are running the world!”) and sought violent solutions to perceived problems (“Germany must destroy its enemies or be destroyed by them!”). But comparing Trump to Hitler misses the point. There has been no shortage of commentary comparing Donald Trump to the most horrible dictator of the 20th century.
