Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called a dawn-to-dusk countrywide shutdown for Thursday protesting the arrest and remand of its top leaders including the ameer, nayeb-e-ameer and secretary general. Incumbent Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has been made acting secretary general of the party. Also Read- Jamaat ameer, secretary general among 9 arrestedOn Monday evening, detectives arrested nine of its members, including Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-ameer Mia Ghulam Parwar, Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman and Chittagong Metropolitan Ameer Mawlana Shahjahan, from a house in Dhaka’s Uttara. In a demonstration in Dhaka, the party leaders threatened to stage fierce protests if its ameer, secretary general and others were not released immediately.
