Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called a dawn-to-dusk countrywide shutdown for Thursday protesting the arrest and remand of its top leaders including the ameer, nayeb-e-ameer and secretary general. Incumbent Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has been made acting secretary general of the party. In a demonstration in Dhaka, the party leaders threatened to stage fierce protests if its ameer, secretary general and others were not released immediately.
