The BJP government reopened old criminal cases against two Congress MLAs and one from JMM to stop them from voting. None of the JMM and Congress MLAs cast second preference vote. But, what baffled everyone is how Basant, despite having support of at least 28 MLAs (JMM 19, Congress 7 and JVM 2), lost the seat to Poddar. The Opposition MLAs were chased and arrested by police. "JMM MLA Chamra Linda (arrested yesterday) and Congress MLA Devendra Singh (who went underground) did not cast their votes.
