In a major crackdown against the Kashmiri Hurriyat leadership on Friday, Indian police detained the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and over 100 others in an overnight operation in Srinagar. Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence in Srinagar and lodged at Kothibagh police station., Kashmir Media Service reported. Indian police arrested dozens of leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) of the occupied territory from their residences during nocturnal raids across the occupied territory. A senior police official in Srinagar told Reuters that the arrests are part of a crackdown ahead of Indian elections set to be held by May. JeI cleared that “any attempt of eroding or tempering with Article 35-A is unacceptable for people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
