As tensions rise along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, social media is flooded with claims that Afghan forces have shot down a Pakistan Air Force fighter jet. On February 27, 2026, Afghanistan’s Tolo News reported that Afghan forces intercepted and brought down a Pakistani aircraft after it entered Afghan airspace. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed that Afghan forces carried out retaliatory strikes on Pakistani border posts. He did not confirm the destruction of any fighter jet. Meanwhile, social media posts claimed that Afghan defence forces shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet and captured a Pakistani outpost in Dangarlagd in Barmal district, as well as in Dand Patan district of Paktika province.
