Italy-Libya: 119 vulnerable refugees arrived in Rome


119 vulnerable refugees evacuated from Libya landed at Rome Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci airport, including 90 men, 18 single women and eight families. The people come from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. The protocol provides for the evacuation of 1.500 refugees from Libya to Italy over three years. Since 2017, UNHCR has evacuated or resettled 1.579 refugees and asylum seekers from Libya in Italy. These channels also represent a signal of solidarity towards low- and middle-income countries that host 75 percent of the world's refugees.
