Carol Shortt, who lives on the corner of Borebank Street and Mathers Avenue in South River Heights, was preparing supper when she happened to notice the smoke while looking out a window. "We didn't know if it was the house or the garage, but it was just billowing smoke," she said. Shortly after 5 p.m., firefighters responded to a call about a one-storey home that caught fire on Borebank Street.
