Due to such lack of a proper context for that remark, any unflattering image for the Philippines resulting from its utterance is not necessarily alarming. In the survey, which was conducted during the first week of September, economic issues topped the list of Filipinos’ concerns by a significant margin. These were followed closely by creating more jobs (30 percent), and fighting graft and corruption in the government (26 percent). Making inflation reduction a priority is rather bold, because the success or failure of the government’s subsequent actions can be objectively measured. By the same token, the administration has also staked its claim to all the credit if the rise in prices, indeed, decelerates.
