Five years ago I posited how John Galt, the Atlas Shrugged hero, would view government bailouts – specifically relating to bailouts of Greece and too-big-to fail banks (“Who is John Galt”). Other than his obvious love of Twitter President Trump has not embraced technology and innovation. Two that easily come to mind are a motor powered by static electricity and Reardon metal, both potential technological societal game changers. Of course there always will be a disparity between the fictional Messrs. Galt and Reardon and any flesh-and-blood president. Our two-dimensional heroes have the luxury of true self-reliance, are unburdened by accountability to a constituency, and have no concern about reelection.
