'Hyper-activity' in blood clotting cells could be the cause of strokes and heart attacks in Covid-19 patients, scientists say. Platelets, blood cells that clot, were much more active in samples taken from Covid-19 patients, according to the study. A study published last week found 62 per cent of 125 hospitalised Covid-19 patients in the UK suffered a stroke during their hospital stay. Although the events are a common occurrence in Covid-19 patients, the drivers are not clear yet. But in some people, this response goes into overdrive and immune cells start attacking healthy tissue as well, known as a cytokine storm.
