Bord Bia is using the Government-led trade mission to Algeria and Egypt this week to leverage further opportunities for Irish companies to meet the rising import demand for dairy and livestock produce in the region. Trade mission objectives: Progress opportunities for Irish dairy ingredients through technical seminars and business to business meetings for Irish dairy exporters;Progress opportunities for Irish livestock exporters with targeted potential customers in Algeria;Build reputation for Irish dairy in both countries;Strengthen relationships at government-to-government level in Algeria and Egypt;Enhance market understanding for Irish exporters in both countries;Present Bord Bia’s Strategy for Africa to industry and grow awareness. This trade mission builds on a previous visit to Algeria in November 2016, in which the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed and Bord Bia led a delegation of Irish dairy and livestock exporters to Algeria and Morocco. The projected rise in population plus the consumer demand for dairy products – coupled with a deficit in domestic dairy production – now make both Egypt and Algeria strategically important markets for Irish dairy exports. Following on from this trade mission, Bord Bia will publish an exporters guide for Irish companies with the required information to navigate the unique characteristics of the respective markets in North Africa.
