Investments in Malaysia remain healthy in 2016: Mustapa

For 2016, Malaysia attracted RM207.9 billion in total approved investments and this will fund 4,972 projects in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors, announced International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. On the lower value of investments in 2016, Mustapa attributed them to two lumpy projects approved in 2015 namely the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC)'s project in Johor and LNG9's project in Sarawak. In terms of value of investments approved, Johor received the largest amount, followed by Selangor, Sarawak, Penang and Perak. In the services sector approved investments totalled RM141.2 billion from 4,199 projects, a 23.3 per cent jump from the year before with 88,110 job opportunities. This was followed by the plantation and commodities subsector with investments of RM542.7 million, and the agriculture subsector making up the rest of approved investments.
