Investment into Africa has not returned to pre-pandemic levels, despite the Sub-Saharan (SSA) region showing record numbers of private participation in infrastructure (PPI) investment commitments. The report said that in 2022, PPI investments in MENA (Midddle East and North America) amounted to $2 billion. PPI investments in MENA represented only 0.13% of the region’s GDP in 2022.”Egypt was responsible for 85% of the PPI investments in the region. “This marked a 10% decrease in investment levels from the previous year and a 15% decrease from the average investment levels over the previous five years. “This represented a 26.1% increase in investment levels compared to 2021, and a 22% lower investment level than the past five-year average of $6.1 billion.
