Southern GPs would be happy to help the Southern District Health Board catch up on work, but they'll need more investment, WellSouth chairman Doug Hill says. A board representative said this investment will come through the Primary and Community Care strategy. Hill said WellSouth had offered help by connecting the board with GPs, but ultimately, the decision would be up to doctors. Figuring out how GPs could step in with Covid-19 recovery was “quite a piece of work”, Hill said. The Health and Disability System Review, released by the Ministry of Health last month, suggests district health boards should absorb the services currently offered by primary health organisations, like WellSouth.
