In the past six months there have been five train failures and eight train faults, which have caused delays on this service. Donaldson said the council would commission an independent investigation into the mechanical faults to find out what the causes are and come up with ways to prevent them. Wairarapa train users would also receive a 30 per cent discount on monthly passes and 10-trip tickets in February, to recognise "the poor service customers have been receiving".
