For two years Tokoroa Hospital has been making, freezing, and selling healthy, home-style meals to the community, made from the surplus food cooked for patient meals. LUKE KIRKEBY Tokoroa Hospital has stopped giving away leftovers because the freezing process not meeting food safety standards (file). "I have looked into the frozen meals at the local supermarkets but the cost is too great and the meals are not nutritionally satisfactory anyway. "We have now stopped freezing meals and will look at other ways of providing meals after hours in the wards," she said.
