Invercargill photojournalist to capture Southland's cultural diversity


Invercargill photojournalist Maree Frewen-Wilks has launched a project to tell the stories of people from more than 100 cultures who have made Southland their home. An Invercargill photojournalist plans to photograph and tell the stories of people from more than 100 cultures who have made Southland their home. Maree Frewen-Wilks has received the backing of the Southland Multicultural Trust and the Southland Museum and Art Gallery and will exhibit her work when the project is complete. Frewen-Wilks said there were between 106 and 140 different cultures living in Southland and their stories deserved to be told. “Everywhere I go, everywhere I photograph, there are people living in Southland from all over the world.
