Staff and emergency services at the South Pacific Meats plant following an evacuation on Wednesday. A meat processing plant in Invercargill has been evacuated following an ammonia leak on Wednesday afternoon. Fire and Emergency were called to South Pacific Meats in Awarua at about 12.15 pm. The building was evacuated while a fire crew located the leak and got it under control, Chalmers said. Fire and Emergency services left the scene at about 14.15 pm, he said, but part of the plant would be isolated until repairs were completed.
