Intense monsoon triggers landslides and floods across Asia

More than 100 people have died across Asia in July as an intense monsoon season triggered landslides and flash floods across the region. In northern India, authorities say almost 100 people died in the past fortnight due to landslides, flash floods, and property collapses. Earlier this week, Japan also reported record-breaking floods on the island of Kyushu in which at least eight people, including a local politician, died. It is typically associated with increased rainfall in parts of southern South America, the southern United States, the Horn of Africa and Central Asia. In the past, it has caused severe droughts in Australia, Indonesia, parts of southern Asia, Central America and northern South America.
