Integrated operation nabbed 18 students playing truant


PENAMPANG: Eighteen students have been nabbed in a truancy sweep by enforcement personnel and school representatives at Putatan here, yesterday. The integrated operation focused on commercial areas, including shopping malls and hypermarkets, during school time between 11am and 1.40pmIn the operation, police school liaison officers from SMK Putatan and SMK Tansau joined other officers from the district education office, Putatan District Council Enforcement Unit, People’s Volunteer Corps, National Anti-Drugs Agency, and disciplinary teachers to catch students playing truant. District police chief Deputy Superintendent Rosley Hobden said all students were handed over to the district education office for further action. “The anti-drugs agency has also conducted a urine test on 14 students and the result was negative. Rosley added that the operation was aimed at strengthening police cooperation with the education department and other agencies to help reduce and tackle student absenteeism.
