People should check with their insurers and airlines before making, changing or cancelling their travel plans, insurance and financial services ombudsman Karen Stevens has warned. Stevens said her office had been receiving a lot of calls from people who wanted to alter their travel plans because of the coronavirus and who had concerns about insurance. Some travel insurance policies also contained more general exclusions for pandemics, Stevens noted. All travel insurance policies were different, so it was important people checked and understood their particular policies, she said.
