The fire appears to have destroyed several classrooms at South New Brighton School. Outside the charred, partially collapsed teaching spaces, children's hats lay discarded on the ground. South New Brighton School is not expected to re-open until Wednesday following a fire on Friday evening, which tore through classrooms and sent plumes of smoke billowing over the coastal Christchurch community. Pania Howden, 10, went to South New Brighton School and had friends in the gutted teaching spaces.
