MANILA,Philippines — After stealing a point against regular tormentor China, a confident Philippine Azkals gun for a victory no less as they play away against Maldives today in the joint Fifa World Cup-Asian Cup Qualifiers at National Stadium in Male. The Azkals eye a good result in the 4 p.m. away fixture (7 p.m. Manila time) as well as in the succeeding road outing against the Syrians on Tuesday in Dubai to boost their chances of advancing. “The draw with China was obviously very good but for us, it’s all about the next game now,” said custodian Neil Etheridge, who’s back to man the fort for Team Philippines. “Every game is a must-win, that’s the mindset we’re putting our players on,” said team manager Dan Palami, who expressed satisfaction with the showing so far. Four members of the Southeast Asian Games-bound pool also made it to the roster, namely Justin Baas, Marco Casambre, Yrick Gallantes, and Edison Suerti.
